French Dual Language Program
Lafayette Academy has a French Dual Language program that immerses French-speaking students in the French language in a number of their instructional classes, thereby promoting bilingual education and more globally-minded students. Learn more below.
About the Dual Language Program
Our screened French Dual Language program is open to participants of elementary school-level French Dual Language and Bilingual Education programs, as well as English Language Learners and French heritage language speakers.

Students are expected to be proficient or fluent in reading, writing and speaking French prior to entering the program.

Applicants will go through a screening process and interview to establish their proficiency in both English and French languages. The program is open to all students and residents in Manhattan.

French Dual Language Program students are taught two courses in French: Advanced French Language Arts and Social Studies. All other courses are taught in English and follow the grade level curriculum.
Programme bilingue français-anglais
Notre programme bilingue s’adresse aux élèves issus d’écoles primaires offrant un enseignement bilingue français-anglais, ainsi qu’aux élèves qui apprennent l’anglais et qui sont de culture francophone.
Pour s’inscrire au programme, les candidats doivent déjà posséder de solides compétences en français ; ils doivent lire et parler le français avec une certaine aisance et rédiger un texte d’une quinzaine de lignes, en utilisant leurs connaissances en vocabulaire et grammaire.
Les compétences en français et en anglais des candidats seront évaluées selon une procédure comportant : (1) Examen du dossier scolaire (2) Entretien oral et (3) Épreuve écrite. Le programme est proposé à tous les élèves qui résident à Manhattan.
Les élèves qui seront autorisés à participer à notre programme bilingue suivront deux cours par jour, en français : un cours avancé de littérature et langue et un cours de sciences sociales. Toutes les autres matières, notamment l’anglais, les mathématiques, les sciences, le dessin, la gymnastique, et les matières optionnelles, seront dispensées en anglais et suivront le programme officiel.
